R. Kelly Career
Kelly started singing when was of the age 8 in church choir. Kelly has even got his autobiography “Soulacoaster” published. In his autobiography, he mentions having a girlfriend at age 8 who drowned when they got into a fight with some older children at that time. She is the one which Kelly defines as her inspiration for music. A big disclosure about his childhood was that he was sexually abused by a older women when he was in the age of 8 to 14.
Kelly in 1980, took admission in Kenwood academy of Chicago where he was encouraged by his music teacher Lena McLin to perform in the School Talent Show. He was shy at that time, and to avoid eye contact with the crowd, he wore glasses and performed which made him win the first prize. This led his music teacher to inspire him to leave the school basketball team and put more effort into music. During his adolescence, he was diagnosed with Dyslexia, making him unable to read and write.

Kelly dropped out of his school and constituted MGM, a vocal group, in 1989. This group got famous for the release of “Why you wanna Play me” in 1990. The singles “Honey Love” and “Slow Dance (Hey Mr. DJ)” were number one R&B/hip-hop hits, while “Dedicated” was the album’s biggest pop hit, a Top 40 single. “Bump N Grind” from “Play 12” was his solo hit in 1993. During 2003 and 2004, Kelly released the number one album Chocolate Factory and the number two double-disc Happy People/U Saved Me.
